Winter Ales Fayre 2000

Netherton Arts Centre

The festival ran from Thursay 23rd to Saturday 25th November 2000.
We had around 40 different real ales to try out, old favourites alongside the higher gravity, winter seasonal beers, plus some ciders and wide selection of European bottled beers on the Saturday night.

We hosted the West Midlands Winter Beer of the Year competition and also the West Midland Champion Beer of the Year Competition (Judging was by tasting panel and not by public vote).
Our first set of chosen judges blind tasted the 6 winter beers, which had been selected in advance by the West Midland CAMRA Branches. The winner of this group was Bathams XXX, second was Holden's XL and third was Burton bridge Top Dog Stout.

A second panel of judges, which included West Midlands Euro MP Simon Murphy, then judged the West Midland Champion Beer of the Year which was won by Slater's Bitter. Slater's Supreme was second and third was Church End Grave Digger's Ale.
